DOT/FTA 2023 Tribal Transit Symposium

To provide a one-stop shop for technical assistance for Tribal leaders and Tribal organizations, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and FTA will co-host a Tribal Transit Symposium on May 24-25, 2023 in Oklahoma City.

The two-day learning opportunity will include information on initiating transit programs on Tribal lands and technical assistance to expand and improve existing Tribal transit systems. Session leaders will discuss tips for submitting DOT and FTA grant applications, including eligibility and reporting requirements. The symposium will also provide ample opportunities for participants to provide feedback at a listening session focused on improving FTA’s Tribal Transit Program.

Session topics include:

  • DOT/FTA priorities and funding opportunities under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

  • FTA and DOT technical assistance resources

  • Best practices and industry trends

  • Tribal Transportation Self Governance Program

  • Interactive engagement with DOT/FTA

This will be a hybrid event and participants may stream the symposium live online, or participate in-person at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. The symposium will be held from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Central Time each day.

The event will include participation by FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez, and UDOT Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tribal Affairs Arlando Teller. In-person participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide input, and receive hands-on technical assistance from DOT/FTA representatives.

All in-person attendees and virtual participants must register to join the Tribal Transit Symposium. The program will be regularly updated as more details become available.
